X-Ray Equipment Set-Up Procedure:

CXR needs a forklift at street level to unload onto a loading dock or through an overhead door. The ACCUVUE x-ray unit™ weights approximately 800 pounds and the conveyor weighs approximately 400 pounds. Although the equipment has casters, it is best to transport it with a forklift if there is some distance inside the plant to the inspection area. To save time, an area should be pre-designated for the inspection.

The ACCUVUE x-ray equipment will occupy an area of nearly 4' x 8'. The conveyor belt is 40" from the floor to the top of the belt and will adjust up to 41-1/2".

A CXR technician will set up the unit and achieve the proper settings for your product using a seeded sample of the suspected contaminant. Our x-ray inspection equipment complies with all USDA, FDA and OSHA regulations.

Inspection Process:

We recommend that each plant designate a Person-In-Charge to coordinate activities between plant personnel, our technician and, when applicable, the UDSA Inpector-In-Charge (I.I.C.).

In most cases, the inspection will require four of your personnel: one to monitor the screen, one to feed the product onto the conveyor, one to unload and repackage or re-palletize the product, and one to help out on either end and to keep the belt full at all times.

The CXR technician will demonstrate the operation of the equipment to all personnel. A seeded sample will be introduced into the machine to train the operators. On approval by the I.I.C. the inspection commences. The I.I.C. and the Person-In-Charge may choose to reintroduce the seeded sample throughout the inspection process.

Wash Down:

The ACCUVUE x-ray unit may be rolled away from the conveyor so that wash down may be achieved on the conveyor. The x-ray unit itself should not be washed down.
